I worked for BYU security as a traffic officer. It has been a part-time job focusing on the safety of all faculty and students as well as security at sporting and cultural events.
Currently, I am an ROTC cadet at BYU, and I am on course to receive my bachelor's in Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic linguistics. The program I am enrolled in is one of the most advanced in the country as I am currently in Jordan studying and will spend a year in Morocco (2025-2026) for additional intensive Arabic study. I hope to utilize the knowledge gained from this experience to better improve coordination and communication between the US and partner countries, as well as unpartnered. This educational experience will be critical for my development as a leader and ability to communicate effectively with others.
While I have ambitious plans for my studies, I am in need of financial assistance to go on my study abroad. I know from much overseas experience that the only real way to learn a language is to be immersed within the cultures from which it originates. Because of Jordan's geographical region, there are few scholarships or financial assistance options offered. I am in need of help to pay for all requirements for essentials such as housing, food, tickets, and paying the institute (through BYU) through which I will be studying. I have used most of my savings for this educational opportunity, and this scholarship would allow me to stay financially stable for the five months I will spend studying.
I am being sincere when I say that it has been the most influential part of my life. I have learned valuable lessons in discipline, integrity, and mental fortitude. Moreover, it has created an environment for me to develop my leadership skills and allows me to reach my full potential. I look forward to whatever experiences the Army will provide to me in the future to help me achieve this.
Last semester I was the treasurer of a BYU club (car maintenance club), a club dedicated to assisting and educating my fellow college students in learning how to save money through car maintenance and repair skills. I was in charge of ensuring the responsible management of funds for our events and the purchasing of materials. I also was part of the BYU Ranger Challenge team where we made it to Sandhurst the worldwide championship, at West Point this year. We trained once, if not twice a day, adding up to 18 hours of training in preparation for this challenging event. In addition to these activities, I worked part-time and volunteered at my church once a week to serve and assist those who attended faith meetings and sessions. I currently am participateting in study groups assisting myself and others for the learning of arabic while in Jordan.

Other duties I have are in the lot area of the wash like, washing and folding towels, making sure vacuums work, no garbage on floors, and emptying trash bins. Ever since I can remember I have wanted to go into the medical field, which is now what I am working towards. My educational and career goal is to graduate college and become a cardiovascular perfusionist. This career is in high demand but not many people know about it. I want to be able to help make peoples lives better and help during surgery. To achieve this goal I am working towards a bachelors in biology and then get into a certificate program of 2 years to become a cardiovascular perfusionist. There is also very few colleges that have this program, the University of Utah is one that does.
My financial need for a scholarship is to help me pay for college which will also help me pay for my every day life. I do have a part time job because I have a full time student, but with the world we live in it is very hard to keep up with life as I have a part time pay. To me, my academic goals are very important and I enjoy learning so that I can eventually have a successful career. I also live off campus and have rent to pay for as well as gas to get to school. As everyone has experience the increase in gas prices and rent, these changes have had an effect on my academic life with a part time pay. This has made it harder to pay for many aspects of life and add more stress which takes attention away from my schoolwork. I want to be able to give my full attention to school so that I am truly learning to the best of my abilities to get a career I have always dreamed of. This is why a scholarship will be very beneficial in my life.
When I was in 4th grade my dad got deployed for a year and my whole families life was changed. I was a super big daddy's girl so when my dad left it was really hard on me. I was always sad and my mom was trying to heal my heart and the rest of our family's hearts. As time went on it got easier and we all adjusted to our new life. But what I learned from this experience has helped me become a stronger person. With the help of my mom and the event held by the military while my dad was gone I now know how to deal with my emotions and not get lost in my sadness. I can now understand how to miss someone but not sit around all day thinking about it. As I learned this from a young age it has really helped me as I have grown. Now I have a long distance boyfriend and the ways learned to handled my sadness when my dad was gone have come in handy while missing my boyfriend. I try to stay busy, keep my life going, and keep working towards my goals in life.
My whole life I did a sport, I started with dance, then gymnastics, and lastly I did cheer. I did cheer in high school for all my 3 years and it was a really good experience for me. Not only did it help me get out of my shy personality but it also helped me develop as a person. My senior year I was in a stunt group with a freshman, sophomore, and junior and we started being treated unfairly. Our coach was always super negative to us and never helped us but would help the other stunt groups. Also, my flier was a freshman and was trying to keep up with the other senior fliers on varsity, but my coach would always tell her how bad she is and never offered any corrections. So I decided to talk to my coach about it and I stood up for how she was treating my freshman flier and my stunt group. After this it all got better and the rest of the year was pretty good. This led to me getting close with the younger girls and boys and I helped them with many things like, issues with the coach, personal issues, and academic problems. At the end of the year at our showcase I got an award for looking out for the younger athletes on the team.

I am currently attending Utah Valley University and will continue till my anticipated graduation of Spring 2025. My major is in Biology, I plan to use this major along with flight training I have finished outside of school to pursue a career in wildlife biology to include the opportunity of becoming a pilot biologist. As a part time service advisor and service valet driver my responsibilities include, maintaining the loaner vehicle fleet in a condition that can be given to customers, customer service in providing recommendations for work needing performed on their vehicle, management of personal CRM to provide timely updates and messages with customers, provide any needed assistance in service drive.
I am currently attending UVU with the goal in mind of completing my bachelor's degree in Biology. My anticipated graduation date is Spring 2025. My goal is to continue my education to the graduate level while also pursuing a career with the US Fish and Wildlife Service as a biologist. While attending school I am also pursuing my instrument and commercial fixed wing pilot ratings. With this I plan to use my degree in conjunction with my flight certificates to eventually be what is called a "pilot biologist" who's primary job is to monitor migratory birds, large mammals, fire operations, and more. Additionally having earned my degree I intend to commission in the guard and work to become an aviator. Through all of this I plan to continue my education beyond my bachelor's of science.
As a student in the STEM field I often find that most of the courses needing to be taken are at off times during the day and require at least 12 hours additional study time per class. As a full time student and employee I can find it hard to find the hours I need to make all of my cumulative bills along with being able to afford books and supplies it is very difficult to do this without taking large loan amounts. With having earned this scholarship it will take a great financial burden off of my shoulders and allow me to continue to focus on school as much as I can.
The military has been quite possibly the best decision I have ever made in my life although an often inconvenient one I am very proud of my service. Becoming a soldier did more than teach me army basics, it taught me a way of life and a way to carry yourself into every situation which has always set me apart from my non-prior service peers. Having been trained to endure stressful and uncomfortable situations I have been able to apply that mindset in the civilian workforce, school, and my hobbies that may be considered stressful or uncomfortable.
I have also found some of the best friends I have ever had in my life of which I consider my family, the military although has its flaws the benefits by far out weigh them. The military is the reason that I was able to make myself what I am today and give me the confidence to carry on.
I have been a service advisor and sales advisor in the automotive industry of which I have the option to be a "manager" or a "leader" for those that allow me to accomplish my job successfully. I chose to be a leader, where I would teach and guide those I was in charge of not only what I did but also would build mutual trust in one another that we were going to get the job done right. On the military side I have been put in charge of a small squad of 5-6 people to work on aircraft as the most experienced and senior E4, during this I was able to guide and teach newer maintainers what the job was all about creating an environment that was open to questions and learning while still maintaining safety. This environment is critical for mission success in aviation.
My extra curricular activities primarily include being in the desert and mountains learning about my environment and enjoying nature with a conservation/ survivalist aspect to it. I enjoy exploring the open land along with the challenge of keeping track of my location and what the land might have to offer. Additionally, I enjoy working with my hands whether it be restoring my Jeep, making leather crafts, or blacksmithing with my uncle. I enjoy being outside and keeping myself occupied.

When I was young my father was doing basic training. Then when I was in kindergarten he was deployed to Iraq for about a year. When he came back he was different. When I was in eighth grade he was deployed to Kuwait for about a year. When he came back he wasn't as affected as he was the first time. The military has had some positive benefits though such as helping me pay for my schooling. They were also a great resource for my mom while my dad was gone.

My aspiration is to obtain a degree in either event management or hospitality. My ultimate career objective is to become a respected and sought-after wedding planner who consistently delivers exceptional events. I developed an interest in the wedding industry after assisting at a wedding and making wedding cakes. My passion is to assist others in creating the wedding of their dreams. Pursuing higher education will equip me with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in the wedding industry. Apart from formal education, I also plan to gain practical experience through internships or entry-level positions in event planning. This will enable me to develop my project management, vendor coordination, and budgeting skills.
Receiving a scholarship would allow me to focus on my degree and not have to balance work and school. This will enable me to concentrate on my academics and achieve better results. A scholarship would also help me decrease future debt and explore more academic possibilities.
Growing up in a family with a strong military history, I have always been fascinated by the military and the dedication and sacrifice of the men and women who serve our country. My grandfathers, father, and brother all served in the military, and their stories of courage and bravery have inspired me to become brave like them. The military has not only impacted my family but has also played a significant role in shaping my values and beliefs. The military's core values, such as honor, courage, and commitment, have become an integral part of my life and have guided me in my personal endeavors. In addition to instilling these values, the military has given me unique opportunities to develop my leadership and teamwork skills. These skills have helped me in my academic pursuits and prepared me for a successful career in whatever I choose to pursue.
As the Student Body Officer (SBO) President of my school, I have had the opportunity to learn and grow as a leader. My time in this role has taught me the importance of hard work, determination, and most importantly, teamwork. Though during COVID many of our events couldn't take place, one of my proudest accomplishments as SBO President was leading a team that was able to work through the hard times and go with the flow. It wasn't always easy, but working with my team to overcome obstacles and achieve our goals was incredibly rewarding.
Outside of my role as SBO President, I am also a competitive gymnast. This has taught me the value of discipline, perseverance, and time management. Balancing schoolwork, and extracurricular activities has been challenging, but it has also taught me the importance of setting goals and working toward them with dedication and focus. Gymnastics also taught me how to cheer for others' successes and inturn has led to long life friends. In terms of my future goals, I hope to continue to grow as a leader and use the skills I have learned to make a positive impact in my community. Overall, I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities I have had to develop my leadership skills through my role as SBO President and my involvement in competitive gymnastics. I have learned the value of hard work, teamwork, and dedication, and I am excited to continue to apply these skills in all aspects of my life.

I worked as a CNA and a MedTech. As a CNA, I assisted residents with basic every day activities. As a MedTech, I gave the residents their prescribed medications.
My biggest educational goal is to graduate nursing school as an RN. After that, I would like to continue my education and obtain a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN). As part of my education, I complete clinical hours in different units of the hospitals, I will use this to decide what unit I want to work on once I graduate. Once I have finished my education, my goal is to help people and work as a nurse at a hospital in Salt Lake.
Although I am fortunate enough to have parents who are able to pay for my college, I would love to help them out in any way possible. My whole life my parents have supported me so much and I want to show my gratitude to them by lessening the finances that they will have to pay.
The military has had a pretty big influence on my life. When I was growing up, my dad was deployed a few times which was pretty hard for my family and I. I remember my mom taking my sister and I to the base where my dad worked for so many activities. Whether it was an Easter egg hunt or a Christmas Party, the base always had things going on that we had so much fun at. Even when my dad was home with us, we went and still go to these events and always have a great time as a family. I really think the people my dad worked with were like a second family to us.
I am currently a Resident Assistant on campus. I help students out if they lock themselves out of their rooms, ensure the dorms are safe and make sure everything is in compliance to our policies. I am also on the USUE Cheer Team.

Utah Army National Guard
9/10/1996 to present
Currently the Command Sergeant Major for the 1-211th Attack battalion, based at West Jordan, Utah. I have been the CSM since 2021. I have deplyed to Iraq three times and Afghanistan once. Most of my time was as a UH-60 Blackhawk crew-chief. I did six years of active duty time, and joined the national Guard in 2002. I have included my resume, and hopefully that paints a good picture of my career to this point.
I have always wanted and appreciated the need for a higher education. I completed things in a round-about way over a number of years, but I am very proud of the educational achievements to this point. I also am very big on trying to get my Soldiers to take advantage of the educational opportunities that come from serving our country. There are so many ways to get your education, it is silly not to take full adfvantage. I like to remind the young Soldiers, even one class at a time, is better than not doing anything.
Besides flying overseas and on various combat missions, my favorite time as a Blackhawk crew-chief was when we would fight the wild fires in California. It was a tremendous honor to be able to assist the fire-fighters, and I would like to continue to assist in the field of emergency management. The military has so many resources at our disposal, so much specialized training, working on ways to incorporate our local military into the assets at the disposal of the state of Utah is what interests me the most. Really, I just want to help people.
Three classes at UVU is over $4000 dollars. Having that kind of money set aside is not where my wife and I are at with five grown children and our first grand-child. The post 9/11 GI Bill is a huge help, but the assistance through the VA can be and is hung up something as small as the wording in Masters of Public Administration vs Masters of Public Service. I am happy to go into more detail if you would like.
The military has shaped me into the best version of myself, without a doubt. I joined late, at the age of 26, and it was one of the two best decisions I have ever made. The other is marrying my wife, Monica. I believe we all owe something to this great country that we live in, and for me, serving in the military was the right choice. I have done some amazing things, even seen the world from a helicopter. I have been part of some terrible tragic moments too. But it has all shaped me into who I am today. I thought I was tough, the military has 100 percent made me into a tough minded person, a person who does not quit, and into the right leader for the Soldiers around me.
I have been lucky enough to lead at all levels on the enlisted side. I have been a squad leader in basic training to the senior enlisted advisor, Command Sergeant Major, for my Battalion. I am so proud of that moment and opportunity, I cannot even put it into words. Squad leader, Section Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, and now Sergeant Major. I also was a crew-chief trainer for many years.

I have always had a good work ethic I have had multiple jobs before this, working since I was 15. At Walmart I was a cashier; being on the front lines of customer service I spent the shifts helping people.

I was a regular lifeguard for my first season, however for my second season I was offered a promotion to Head-Guard that I took. My reasonability was to make sure the Lifeguards are doing their jobs, and that pool machinery is working on top of regular Lifeguard duties.

Being a commission-based job, it is one hundred percent effort, you get what you put into it. I love learning what makes certain people tick in order to make the sale happen.
I have always been a goal-oriented person. To me, being goal-oriented means, you can achieve great things when you are willing to take the hard path to greatness. The road may not be entirely smooth, but in the end, it’s worth it. When I was younger, some adults and a few teachers would tell us we didn’t have to do anything we didn’t want to do. However, I disagree, I think to do great things you must do things you don’t want to do. Things that make you uncomfortable because hardship, trial and error teaches what works. As cliché as it sounds, it builds character.
There are a lot of things I want to accomplish when I am older. I plan to get my degree in marketing and international business. Building a career in international business with a focus on marketing. This seems like a perfect fit to me because I have always been a creative person. I love photography, graphic design, and finding solutions to problems.
Growing up, my parents never wanted my little sister and I to go without. They worked hard to provide us what we needed and looking back, I realize that their example taught me the value of saving and to give all that I can.
Because My Dad is retiring from the Military and my mom is primarily a homemaker, I know they can’t afford to pay for my college. I have worked hard my entire life to be a good person and make the money; via a lemonade stand, cleaning trash bins, or mowing lawns to by the things I wanted in life. I believe that this taught me the value on money early in live and I know that I must work for the things I want because nobody is just going to give it to me. I plan to keep working part-time at my job at CarMax through the school year and full-time over the summer. Unfortunately, My Savings and income will not be enough to cover tuition and books. My family will only be able to help a little and loans will be required to cover the difference. I hope all the hard work I have done is worthy of a scholarship. This scholarship will make my transition into adult life so much easier.
The military has influenced my life in so many ways. Growing up with a military father the American Values of duty, integrity, ethics, honor, courage, and loyalty. These Values he lives every day have been passed down to me. These values are integral to how I behave with my country, relationships, and my work.
Adopting the values of the Army into my own life as a citizen had helped propel me to success in many ventures and relationships.
When I started working at Walmart, it was my first job with demanding hours, and it was the first time, I had to consider a work life balance, (In high school it is more of a work, school, life balance). I have always strived for more in my professional life, going from janitor to car salesman in three years has required a lot of dedication and hard work. Although I have seen a lot of success professionally, there is nothing I put before my family and friends. This shows my strive for duty to my own future as well as my family and friends, following the values passed down to me.
That is just one current example of how the military and the military values have affected my life. I am forever proud to be part of a military family and it has shaped me to be who I am today.
In 2019, I earned the honor of becoming an Eagle Scout. During my project I was able to successfully lead my troop in a neighborhood earthquake preparedness campaign. During this project, I researched & prepared an educational flyer, sought donations, and educated over 150 households.
In the beginning, I thought this project would be simple, but learned the complexities of project management and value of being flexible & resourceful.
The first phase was to acquire the wrench we would supply to each household with to shut their gas off with. This wrench was integral to my project. Without it, my project would flop. In the beginning, I was in discussions with the manager of Harbor Freight. I thought I had secured the donation of the wrenches but to my disappointment, they didn’t sell the type of wrench I needed. I reached out to a couple other companies and finally connected with Hansen HVAC who loved my project and donated the full $150 necessary for the purchase of the wrenches.
The third phase of my project was training my troop in earthquake preparedness and how to use the gas shut off wrench, where to zip-tie it on the meter and go door to door passing out the flyers.
The Final phase and execution of the project went smoothly. Everyone was prepared and I was excited to see it all come together. During the earthquake preparedness campaign, I received many complements on my project management from my Scouting Leadership and individuals in the community.

Nebo School District - Barnett Elementary School
2021-2024
I've been working as a Student Sweeper for the past three years and it has been one of the best things I could have done as a High School student. Each day after school I get to go in and work under three adults, keeping a consistent daily routine provided by the School District, and preforming odd-end tasks that keep our school a sanitary and safe place. A workday for me normally consists of emptying trash, wiping down large surfaces such as tables or desks, sweeping, mopping and often wiping down windows. However, I am not unfamiliar to power tools, vacuum repairs, graffiti removal, or the occasional need to clean up bodily fluids from a classroom. Having worked in my position the longest among coworkers in the same position, I try to hold myself accountable and to a higher standard of reliability and lead by example. This position has allowed me make connections and form friendships with some of the teachers and has ultimately left me further inspired to become a teacher. Thankfully the title "Teacher" hasn't just been limited to the fabulous women I clean for. I'm so grateful for the superiors I work under because their examples of hard work and ingenuity has made me a better problem solver and a better person.
By attending Snow College, I will be able to receive an Associate Degree in General Education which will allow me to continue working towards a Bachelor's in Elementary Education. Prior to attending College, I will be living with my family in Morocco for 6 months and will have the opportunity to experience many diverse cultures which will enhance my perspective on multiculturalism.
In preparation to attend Snow College this following year, I have been awarded a Dean's Scholarship which will cover 50% tuition each semester excluding summer sessions. My purpose for applying for this scholarship is to help me cover the remaining tuition costs. By receiving this scholarship, it will allow me to have more financial freedom in pursuing goals focused on a future career. I plan to achieve a teaching certificate in later years of college and participate in humanitarian work.
Even though my father's military service has required personal sacrifice such as moving to a new state and soon to a new country, it has also benefited my family as well as myself. Changing schools from Idaho to Utah has opened numerous doors and windows to opportunities for my education but also in my extracurricular activities that otherwise wouldn't have been possible. For example, this last summer I was given the opportunity to travel to Morocco as a youth ambassador with the MYA (Military Youth Ambassadors.) I was selected from a handful of youth and was accompanied by nine others oversees where I was able to experience the different cultures, make lasting friendships, and become familiar with what would soon be a second home, all while representing my country and my home state.
The National Honor Society (NHS) is a nationwide program that allows high school students to be recognized for their academic achievements and success. Aside from the acknowledgement of honor roll, NHS highlights proficiency in areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. The National Honor Society has helped provide opportunities to assist in the special education department at my high school, feed the homeless, pick-up trash on school grounds and surrounding areas, and help peers feel seen and appreciated. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has also allowed me to serve in multiple positions where I have learned keen organization skills. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints offers thousands of opportunities to serve in locations that vary from countries in need of humanitarian assistance to local neighborhoods. Within each ward, youth are encouraged to congregate once a week and participate in activities that are often service based. The Young Women organization within the church provides instruction, encouragement and support for members ages 11 through 17. Some of the personal experiences for me have included: leadership callings, organizing and carrying out service projects, conducting food drives, and providing assistance through manual labor.

Unfortunately, I have used over half of the college savings that I had in my first year of school at USU, between paying tuition for two semesters and paying for housing, etc. I am in severe need going forward, as I don't have any other option to pay for school other than scholarships or other financial aid.
Every since I was born, I watched my dad serve in the Army and my mom serve as an Army spouse. Together, they showed me what it means to serve our country and community. I have admired my dad for his service and he has impacted my decision to find a career of service to my community as well. I am forever grateful to our military community and their families for defending our freedoms and way of life in the U.S. I am committed to doing everything I can to support and thank military families for all they do for us.
I was a youth leader in my church, as well as in my dance company. I participated in dance and soccer from middle school until high school, and continued dancing with a team until graduating from high school. I was able to mentor younger dancers and help them as I served as a leader on my team.

I am currently working through a dual-Master's degree at Amridge University, which is a private Christian college. My degrees are: Masters of Divinity, which is required to become a Chaplain in the military, along with a Masters in Professional Counseling, which will allow me to become a licensed mental health therapist.
I was enlisted in the Army as a paralegal for 17 years before I commissioned as a Chaplain candidate. Working in the JAG office, I sat with service members who were going through a difficult time. Some of them were even contemplating suicide. As a paralegal, this scared me and I was not sure what to do. I wanted to provide more support to help the service members I worked with. Thus, I volunteered to take extra courses, got some emotional training, as well as suicide-prevention training. This made a remarkable difference for the troops I worked with and kept some of them alive. With my help, instead of considering suicide, we were able to prevent that and get them the help they needed to overcome their obstacles and thrive.
I want to become a Chaplain and a therapist to offer even more help and support for service members who are struggling. No one should suffer alone. There is help and hope. I began my degree in 2021 and am scheduled to graduate December 2024.

Utah Army National Guard; Supervisor: (civ) Annika Hunt and COL Cody Workman
July 2023-present
Utah Army National Guard
After working full-time for the National Guard for several years as a Soldier, I broke my leg at Basic Officer training, which made me non-deployable and medically disqualified me from being an activated guardsman. I have been working as a Federal Technician for the Utah National Guard since July 2023. I am part of the Prevention Workforce. We are a group of public-health professionals who are improving the culture of our military organization. Our job is to reduce risk factors, increase protective factors, and prevent harmful things from happening in our ranks and families, such as: family violence, abuse, workplace harassment, and self-harm. We use research-based methods and evidence-based techniques to make our force stronger, safer, healthier, in order to increase our readiness to fight and win the nation's wars.
Aug 2017 - Dec 2022
My undergrad degree was Business: Accounting. I graduated in 2011 and was an accountant for many years. I managed the Regional Budget for the Homeland Response Force (HRF) and was entrusted with handling over $8million annually to pay for Army and Air joint task-force budgetary items such as : pay & allowance, training, equipment, and other necessary purchases to accomplish the mission. The program manager over the national budget at NGB said my monthly spreadsheet tracker "was the best he had ever seen" and used it as an example which he provided to all the budget analysts across the 54 national guards.
Due to my leg injury at training, I had surgery in January 2023 and went on medical orders. This explains the gap in my work history from January to July 2023, prior to my current position.
I would like to graduate and become a military Chaplain. I am also working toward becoming a licensed clinical mental health therapist. After graduation I should gain enough client hours to apply for my therapy license in 2027. I love helping people and gain a great sense of fulfillment serving not only our great nation but also offering encouragement and support to our service members.
It is commonly known that service members face mental, spiritual, and emotional challenges which are unique and distinct from stressors in the civilian sector. Having served in the military for many years, I understand those challenges as I have personally experienced and worked to overcome them myself. I was enlisted for 17 years before I commissioned. Additionally, with a background in legal work and accounting, I am uniquely qualified to help soldiers and airmen not only with their mental health challenges and relationships struggles, but can also help them work to overcome any legal or financial stressors as well. I love serving those who serve and want to continue to do so for many years.
I have maxed out Federal Tuition Assistance and am no longer able to use that to pay for the rest of my dual-Master's degrees. Having a Master's of Divinity is required in order to move beyond being a Chaplain Candidate and become a qualified Chaplain. To fill this gap, I may need to take our student loans, but would like to avoid that at all costs.
When I lost my full time activated military job (on ADOS orders) due to a broken leg which occurred at military training, I took a significant pay-cut to work for the army as a civilian during the week. With that, I lost access to many benefits such as daycare assistance, medical insurance (Technicians are prohibited from using Tricare), non-taxable income, food and housing allowances, and lost other benefits.
I am a mother to 5 children: my oldest child is 14-years old and has very severe special needs, to include: non-verbal autism, epilepsy, sensory processing disorder, allergies, and a few other diagnosis. He has melt-downs where he breaks things in our house, injures himself and us, he rips his clothes and tears his shoes apart. On a regular basis we need to purchase diapers and wipes for him, along with new clothes and shoes. We pay for repairs and replacements of things around our house often. A lot of our resources are just to keep him alive, safe, clothed, and fed.
A scholarship in any amount would be extremely helpful to pay for my schooling and allow me to become a Chaplain and work toward licensure in therapy.
Being a soldier is not just a job for me, it's who I am. I was a soldier before I got married. When I was dating my college sweetheart, he knew that my service in the military was part of the package deal. Of course we had to plan our wedding around my military schedule so I did not miss drill. Over the years, I've given birth to each of our 5 children while serving in the Army. One time, when my husband had run out of breastmilk at home, he drove to camp and I breastfed one of my infants in the back of a HMMWV prior to a convoy. All of my children have only ever know what it's like to be a child of a service member. They don't think it's cool or special that mommy is a soldier because it is normal for them. In fact, my third oldest child reminds us all the time that he wants to be a hero when he grows up, so he's going to be a firefighter.
My family has sacrificed to support me as I have been gone for weeks or months at a time, traveling all around the world in order to serve, train, or fulfill missions for the military. I have missed birthdays, mother's day, anniversaries, sporting events, and so many other occasions to wear camouflage and be with my brothers and sisters in arms. We wouldn't have it any other way.
It is very common for me to say "hey I need to drive to the armory real quick," to sign something, pick up equipment, or provide therapy for a Soldier in distress. My husband responds with something like "ok, I'll order pizza. See you when you get home."
Throughout the years I have had many opportunities to be a squad leader, NCOIC, teacher, mentor, at times have even been a mother figure to young soldiers. I was selected to work in the Command [Front] Hall at the state Headquarters in the JAG office for a year. Our office was next to The Adjutant General's office, the 2-star general and the highest ranking leader in the UTNG. I personally completed paperwork that was finalized by signatures of various one or two-star generals. Some of those policies and letters are still in affect today. I also personally created thousands of Last Will and Testaments, Power of Attorney, and other legal documents to benefit our service members and their families.
Since being commissioned in 2022, I have served as an officer and been a leader in that way. I have officiated award and promotion ceremonies, conducted church services, provided training and counseling for hundreds of troops and their families. Not only do Chaplains serve as the moral compass and religious leader for the unit, they are part of the personal staff to the commander, in addition to the Command Sergeant Major in the unit. We work directly with the commander so they can focus on the mission. It has been an honor to work with all ranks from PV1 to Generals providing support, comfort, relief, and encouragement.
I love playing volleyball, doing puzzles, reading books, playing my flute, dancing around the kitchen with my kids, creating pottery, and taking long naps.

Antiterrorism Program Manager - Serves as the Wings commander authority and expert on all matters involving antiterrorism and force protection requirements, policy, procedures, and program statues. Acts as the focal point to coordinate, de-conflict, and integrate various force protection procedures, and activities within the installation. Responsible for the overall implementation, oversight, and centralized control of the coordinate force protection and antiterrorism program for the installation.
My short-term career goal is tied to my education. By continuing my education with this scholarship, I can truly increase my knowledge and ensure that I am supporting my installation in my current position to the very best of my ability. While continuing my education I would like to make more connections so that I can network and ensure that I am looking at strategic plans wholistically and bounce ideas back and fourth with others in the field. I believe that continuing my education with the help of this scholarship would provide me with the opportunity to apply my academic knowledge and skills to real-world scenarios and to learn from the experts in the field. My long-term career goal is to advance to a senior or leadership position in the military or another federal agency that deals with antiterrorism/counterterrorism, such as the Department of Homeland Security or the Federal Bureau of Investigation. I hope to be involved in strategic planning, policy making, and coordination of antiterrorism/counterterrorism efforts at the national and international level.
Pursuing my education goals financially is not easy due to the fact that I am financially taking care of my ill mother. She was recently diagnosed with Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), which is a serious lung disease. Because of this recent diagnosis she is unable to work and therefore dropped from her previous insurance. My mother had an extended hospital stay due to the COPD, which has cost well over $5000. This has led to her needing significant medical care, medication, and constant oxygen which are all very expensive. This diagnosis has led to other life changes, and I help my mother with most day-to-day activities such as cooking, cleaning, and shopping. These daily activities add to the finical burden. Furthermore, my husband recently had a huge job change with has decreased our annual income by over $30000. With all these factors having a scholarship would ensure I am able to meet my intertwined career and education goals.
The military has influenced me more than any other entity in my life. It has taught me the true meaning of camaraderie. I have met some of the most amazing people who shared my values, goals, and challenges and not only that, but we have laughed, cried, celebrated, and mourned together. These individuals have become a family and support system to me that I want to preserve and give my best too. Being in the military has given me the opportunity to develop my leadership skills. I learned how to take charge, make decisions, and motivate others. I have also learned how to be humble, respectful, and accountable. The military helped me grow as a leader and a person, and I am proud of the accomplishments I achieved with my team. Because of this influence I apply the lessons I learned into my current work and personal life, and I strive to be a positive influence on those around me.
The military showed me the value of having and being a loyal, trustworthy, and caring friend. It has influenced me to always strive to be better, whether its personal, professional, or emotionally, etc. Without the military I don’t think I would have strived or had confidence in myself to be where I am now!
As a member of the Utah Air National Guard, I have held multiple leadership positions. The newest leadership position is as a flight Chief to our DSG members. Being a flight chief means I need to continually strive to effectively utilize my members time during drill weekends, ensure they receive realistic timely training, pursue development opportunities for our members and help them maintain global readiness. Inherently being in Security Forces has given me leadership opportunities as our career field is based around being a leader.
Extra-curricular activities I participate in is a book club that meets monthly to critically examine and discuss literature. I am a lifetime member of the Enlisted Association of the National Guard, Utah (EANGUT). I participate in annual meetings as well as I have gone to the national conference as professional development.

Maintain a secure and safe environment for employees, clients, and guests by deterring, observing, reporting, and taking appropriate action when necessary or directed by a supervisor. Typical duties included access control for visitors and vendors, patrols, CCTV monitoring, and provide customer service.
My educational goal is to graduate with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. I would also like to further my education in obtaining a master's degree in history because I see it as one of the essential subjects to learn and be able to teach so the same mistakes are not repeated in the future. My career goal is to be a Special Agent in the Drug Enforcement Administration. I believe I could make a difference in many lives through this career path. I have always been interested in the work that this administration does and decided that I want it to be my future.
My family is unfortunately not able to help me with the expenses I have. My parents both immigrated here in their late teens from Mexico and have since then naturalized into citizens. They have struggled, coming from nothing, it was hard for them to afford an opportunity to give me a better life. Despite these struggles, they have worked hard since I was born to give me many opportunities and still do. I grew up in California where everything was far too expensive for us, my family decided moving to Utah would be beneficial financially and that there would be more opportunities for me, they were right. My goal is to create the life they have longed for in this country. Attending class full time and helping my family with their financial needs is challenging. Receiving a scholarship would help take some financial burden off my shoulders.
The Military has changed my perspective on life and has created many opportunities for my family and I. I have always wanted to serve my country in any capacity growing up and found the National Guard to be the best route. I truly learned what people could be capable of when working together. The Military allowed me to make connections with folks from all walks of life.
Growing up I played soccer for competitive traveling teams. I was the captain and maintained organization on and off the field. I was close with my coaches through the years and always made recommendations on what could be done better or what we as a team needed to work on. I was often left in charge of leading the team's physical exercise at the end of practices. At Utah State University Eastern I was in the Serving Utah Network Center for which I organized an egg hunt for kids and the elderly at Parkdale Health and Rehab. In Basic Training I was the PG for a few weeks for which I was a liaison between my Drill Sergeants and my Platon. I kept accountability of my troops and made sure we showed up early to formations. I made sure we completed all of our tasks for when the Company was in movement. In Advanced Individual Training I was made the class leader, being responsible for the way my class maintained their military bearing and organization in the classroom. I also assigned cleaning and equipment duties everyday.

I chose to pursue a Master in Business Administration because the MBA allows me to become a dual threat NCO leader. The MBA is unique because it pushes its students to become proficient not only in business, but also in leadership, relationships, and ethics. An MBA can empower one to influence change within an organization. As mid-level enlisted sailor, my voice and influence only goes so far. Having the experience of operating in the enlisted world of the military, paired with higher education, allows me to approach problems with a unique, thorough, and influential perspective. Problems fixed with decisions based off of facts from lessons learned rather than decisions based off theories or “good” ideas creates a strong foundation for success within any organization.
I haven’t decided if my military career with be 6, 10, or 20 years but I know that pursuing higher education places more tools in my toolbox. So, whatever its application may be, education and its value has taken me places that I never thought were possible.
During my application process to different master's programs around the country, I quickly learned that education is truly an investment in yourself. I searched high and low for the most cost efficient yet valuable program to fit a desire to further my education. I finally found the University of Utah’s online Master of Business Administration program. I have been hesitant to start the MBA program, not because I don’t think I can’t handle the course load or balance my EOD career with extra school, but because the cost of furthering one’s education has been inflated so much over the last 10 years. As an E5 enlisted sailor, taking on university fees and tuition can be a daunting task. I have already taken advantage of the Navy’s tuition assistance program but even with this benefit, the program is still costly. I have seen first-hand waste and abuse of finical aid through Navy ROTC and Active Duty Military. I understand the value of an education and any financial aid that comes with it. I can confidently say that if I am awarded a EANGUT scholarship, this would not be a wasted decision by the scholarship board.
I grew up in a family with two parents who valued higher education dearly. Education and school were always the number one priority. The problem with education is it doesn’t truly teach you the value of working with your hands, problem solving, or stepping up. As a 24-year-old biomedical science graduate, I knew a lot about chemistry, biology and physiology. I, however, did NOT know how to operate a firearm safely, trailer a 9-meter boat, or how to use the many basic tools in our EOD shop. I had to spend extra time becoming familiar with the unfamiliar. I was quickly humbled by my lack of street knowledge I had with basic tools and weapons. Over time, and with multiple repetitions, I was able to bridge my classroom work ethic and diligence with the hands-on profession of EOD.
The military has also taught me the invaluable skill of problem solving. There are many times during training where I was presented a problem or situation that I had never dealt with before. Instead of falling into the typical “paralysis by analysis”, I used my core tools of problem solving that the military has engrained into me to think through the situation, step-up and get it done. In life and ESPECIALLY in the military, things break, problems arise, and plans go out the window. Problem solving can be a difficult skill to master in unfamiliar territory but with experience and time it can become a career or lifesaving skill.
EOD Platoons are 6–10-man units that operate on the idea of “self-sufficiency”. On top of being an EOD Tech, each member is given a secondary administrative job to keep the platoon running smooth. My current roll on my platoon is the Lead Supply Petty Officer (LSPO). Supply has proven to be one of the more bureaucratic jobs on the platoon. The end goal is simple: provide the platoon with the best gear possible so they can do their job without limitations. Achieving that goal has proven to be no simple feat. Through numerous justifications and request forms supply still proves to be a difficult process. Being the LSPO has taught me the importance of patience, communication, and persistency. If you aren’t patient and fail to communicate with those you work with, good luck getting what you need. If you lack persistency in the bureaucratic supply world, then there’s a good chance that the box of dive parts you needed is still sitting on a dusty shelve somewhere, and not in your possession.
On top of my leadership role within my platoon, I have had the opportunity to attend a multitude of courses. Each course, although very different, strengthens my ability to operate as an EOD Technician. These voluntary courses include: Shaw Shooting, Jungle Warfare, and Advanced Demolition. Each one of these “extra-curricular” courses teach their own respective lessons to be applied to the modern-day EOD battlefield. This has left me as a more confident, knowledgeable, and creative EOD Tech.

Earning a bachelor's degree or possibly even higher in aerospace engineering stands as a defining goal in my educational pathway. This stems from my passion for military innovation and my strong commitment to help shape the future of space exploration and aviation. This pursuit aligns heavily with my desire to gain a better understanding of the complexities of flight, spacecraft design, and propulsion systems that power our journey to Earth’s atmosphere and beyond. My ultimate goal in life is to work in a career pathway that will challenge me for a long time moving forward, as well as, bringing innovation to the world around me. This then flows very well into my other long-term career goals, in which I want to have a stable career for years to come. Lastly, providing me with the hands-on experience of designing and building the future.
Financial assistance with this scholarship would allow me to be a full-time student, alleviating the burden of working extensive hours outside of academics. It would further allow me to channel my energy, time, and focus wholly into my coursework, research projects, and extracurricular activities. This dedication isn't just for personal gain; it's about honoring the collective investment made by mentors, supporters, and institutions that have paved the way for my educational pursuits. By being a full-time student, I become capable of immersing myself in internships and building lifelong connections within the industry. Not only will I benefit from these opportunities, but it will allow me to give back to my academic community, and will potentially provide me with the ability to give back through mentoring programs or collaborative projects later down the line.
The military has been a key part of my life since I was very young, with some of my earliest memories being attached to military events that my mother helped to plan through her time as part of the family readiness group. My dad served all the way to E9, served as the President of the Enlisted Association for Utah, amongst other positions, and as the Area VI Chairman for EANGUS. I was always inspired by the countless hours that my dad spent devoting himself to the military, his profession, and the affiliated organizations that he was a part of. My dad was very devoted to his work, and he taught me how to cherish and make the most out of the limited time that I had with him. Where I can see the biggest impact of the military is how my dad taught me to apply this idea of making the most out of my time I had with him, and I have applied that to other aspects of my life. It helped to teach me how to work hard, and to devote myself fully to each and every task I do. This has applied even when having limited amounts of time, or being stretched thin between all of the different things that life throws at us. The military is a key reason that I am in the position that I am in today, and I am very thankful for the opportunities and lessons that It has provided to me throughout the years.
Throughout the years I have held several leadership positions stemming from my desire to help better the world around me. My greatest leadership moment was when I was elected by my fellow peers to present a presentation to our local congressman about environmental conservation, while conveying a younger generation's perspective on proposed plans to build artificial islands within our local lake. This project was meant to help with the housing crisis that we had come into from the sheer quantity of people relocating to Saratoga Springs UT. As I got older I stepped away from extracurricular activities through school to pursue workforce experience. This led me to work at my local Walmart as an online shopping assistant for a year, until I decided that it was in my best interest to take a break from work to focus on school as AP tests and finals. After that, I moved to work at In-n-out to get experience working in a fast-paced environment and build my multitasking skills, communication skills, and openness to learning new skills. As a whole, my leadership opportunities and my experience in the workforce helped prepare me for college and life after, by teaching me skills that will help me prioritize my learning and transition more seamlessly into the workforce. I have also been identified as a peer tutor to a variety of students throughout both high school and middle school. These positions of trust nominated by teachers, allowed me to assist my fellow peers directly.

With a counseling degree, I would first work in a clinical setting. This would kickstart my career and assist me in receiving the amount of exposure and experience necessary to continue to expand my horizons. With this counseling degree, I intend to soon after apply for a PhD program in combined Clinical and Counseling Psychology. This would open the doors that would permit me to pursue a course as a counselor within the United States military. I intend to hold this position until the end of my military career, during which time I would like to continue to seek out educational opportunities to expand my capacities, specialties, and talents. Lastly and later in my career, I would like to learn the logistics of the private side of counseling and therapy. I recognize that plans can change and that avenues can detour. That is why I seek an education. To guide me not just in the materials and the workings of the field, but also to guide me in my own career, and to work with those who know more and who know better than I do myself. I seek their counsel, their assistance, and their tutelage
To begin, we live in a world and a society where financial aptitude is a requirement for educational success. I want to begin by stating that I have tried my best to be careful with my finances to date. Scholarship money is not my "get out of jail free card". It is my "keep me out of jail free card". I graduated with my bachelor's degree with no student debt, I own my own car, and I already have a start in investments and retirement. However, to undertake a graduate degree takes a lot of money, not to mention that I am getting married the same year. With these reasons in mind, I wish to submit my request for scholarship that I might continue to pursue my education with the focus being on my career and not on my bank account. It's so that I might pursue a career holding nothing back for the fear of financial retribution. It's so that I might begin my marriage and family without more stress for shelter and food than is required. This is my request and there reasoning for it.
As an overarching statement, let me assure you that the military has indeed changed my life. I originally enlisted for the sake of financial security. I was pursuing an undergraduate degree and wanted to be able to afford that, and the necessities of life demanded by myself and by a future family. I honestly saw it as a means to an end. 5 years later it has taught me so much more. As a Private, I learned the importance of teamwork, both in working together towards a common good and working together against a common bad. I learned the importance of humility, submission, and trust in those who know better. As a PFC I learned the importance of pulling of my weight. I learned the importance of seeing the big picture and working together towards its fruition. As a Specialist I learned about the principles of preparedness and dependability. I learned about the importance in following the rules and making sure that others follow the rules. I learned again trust in my superiors, as well as trust in their tutelage and instruction. Now, in the almost two years that I have been a sergeant, I have learned the importance of servant leadership, of sacrifice, and of hard work. I have learned what it means to be not just a leader or a sergeant, but also an instructor and a friend. I have come to understand what the Army is really about. And I intend to stick with it. My ETS date is this year and I'm already preparing to reenlist. I am excited to see where the future takes me.
Since I was in my youth, I have had exposure to various leadership positions and extra curricular activities. To start, I obtained my eagle scout award from the Boy Scouts of America. This required the exercise of leadership in several circumstances, but the crowning opportunity was when I refurbished a city park alongside my home city, supplies provided, but under my command. During my youth I also pursued martial arts throughout the entirety of my high school career. I eventually made black-belt, but was also invited onto the team as an assistant-instructor, which role I carried until I left for a two-year religious mission. During that time I had leadership roles spanning stewardships of 3600 miles and more than a dozen individuals. I was responsible for their success and their instruction. Once I returned and enlisted in the Army, I graduated with honors from basic and AIT, and as recognition as runner-up soldier of the cycle. Post training, I climbed the ranks quickly, surpassing many of my peers and being awarded and/or coined on multiple occasions. I have spent almost the past 2 years as a sergeant, during which time I have had ample opportunity to test my leadership skills. I also graduated from the Army BLC course on the commandant's list. In my own work, I have been entrusted as a new employee with more than a dozen clients, some with exhaustive conditions. I have led in discussions and collaborations with other officials concerning them and their best interests.

It’s always good to have educational and career goals. One of my career goals is to pursue a healthcare career. Healthcare is fascinating to me because it’s always changing, evolving, and never the same. I’ve been working in healthcare for a little over a year and a half. During this time, I have learned so many things about the world and the healthcare world.
Working in healthcare amazes me. You meet so many people, you help so many people, and you can change for the better too. Healthcare is a field that requires a lot of skills learned in school, but also a lot of skills learned on the job, such as empathy. I find that these skills learned while working are very beneficial for anything in your life.
My educational goals are to graduate with my bachelor's in nursing and receive my RN. I plan to work as an RN for a few years, and then go back to graduate school. I want to continue my education and receive a CRNA license or go to nurse practitioner school. Either way, I want to help make a difference in people’s lives.
As everyone knows, college is expensive. No matter where you go or what you major in, the cost will affect you. My financial need for a scholarship is unlike any other. I will be paying for my education by myself. I plan to get through my schooling with no debt. I have the goal of no debt because I have seen how no debt has helped my parents to live happier.
A scholarship would help immensely. It would be helpful to save money on tuition and allow me some extra money to have fun during my college years. Paying for college is a big burden and stress in students’ lives. I want my college stress to be on my classes and not worrying about how I am going to pay for this semester’s books.
Going to and paying for college requires hard work. I have already and plan to work very hard to continue my education. Working hard is important because it helps you to learn what’s important in your life. This past school semester has helped me learn that my education and my goals are what is important to me.
Education is very important in my life. Without it, I’m not sure what else I would do in my free time. I’ve learned that education takes hard work, and part of that includes paying for schooling. Without scholarships, I would not be able to afford a college education without taking out loans. I plan to only take out a loan if I have to or, hopefully never.
My dad has been in the Air National Guard my whole life. He has gone on many deployments and has taught me many things. During his deployments, it was hard to have him away. These deployments taught me how to help out around the house. I have 2 younger siblings and we would all help my mom with whatever she needed. I also learned how to not complain, and I understood that when my dad was gone, it was only for a little bit.
With my dad being in the military, we have gotten quite a few benefits. For instance, we have been able to get season skiing and snowboarding passes to Park City for the past few years. Without the military, we never would’ve gotten to have these experiences. I have learned to be grateful for what benefits we receive.
Looking up to my dad, I have learned what it is like to be a good leader and a hard worker. I know that my dad’s job isn’t easy, and I see how much work he puts into things. I know that by working hard it can make anything a little easier. I have seen my dad get promoted and move up in his area. I know that working hard and being a good leader is a big part of that.
In all, the military has been a huge part of my life and has taught me many things. I know that without the military, my life would’ve been very different. I am very grateful to be a part of a family that understands what being in the military is. I am also grateful to my dad for showing me what I want to be like in the future.
I held a leadership position on the high school mountain bike team. I was a captain during my junior year. This position allowed me to get to know all of the members of the team. Through being a team captain I learned how to be a good leader. A good leader is someone who cares about their teammates. A good leader is someone who wants their friends, teammates, coworkers, etc., to do well and succeed in everything they try.
During the 2023 summer, I worked at a kid's camp called Camp Walt Whitman. The position I held there was hiking leader and bike trip leader. For the hikes, me and another coworker would take groups of 10-20 kids on hikes. These hikes would range in difficulty and distance. For the bike trips, me and another coworker would take kids on overnight bike trips. During these hikes and trips, I would help to prepare meals for the kids and make sure they were taken care of and safe.
Extracurriculars, I have picked up are volunteer work at a home health and hospice company. I travel to different patient's homes and keep them company for a few hours. This helps the patients to not feel as lonely and to know that someone cares for them. I participate in a few sports with some of my friends. We play pickleball at local pickleball courts a couple of times a week. Other extracurriculars include mountain biking, hiking, snowboarding, and spending time with my friends and roommates.

I intend to complete my BA degree in aviation and business mgmt. through WGU once I get to the regionals and work towards achieving a right seat in a 787 United Airline commercial jet.
Quitting my job to pursue a career in aviation was a decision fueled by passion and determination. By sharing my story, I hope to convey my unwavering commitment to the aviation industry and demonstrate how this scholarship will enable me to achieve my dreams.
In 2007 I moved next door to a small airport. Watching the planes fly in and out sparked my curiosity of becoming a pilot. The thrill of being in the sky and the mechanics of aircraft have always fascinated me. Despite working in a different field and starting a family, my passion for aviation has remained. This scholarship would provide me with the opportunity to turn my lifelong dream into a reality.
Quitting my job to pursue a new career was not an easy decision. It has required courage and a leap of faith. Financial stability, job security, and societal expectations are some of the challenges I am going to have to face. However, I believe that pursuing my passion is going to be worth the sacrifices. This scholarship would alleviate some of the financial burdens and enable me to focus wholeheartedly on my aviation studies. By taking this leap of faith, I have opened myself up to new opportunities in the aviation industry. This scholarship would provide me with the necessary resources to obtain the required certifications, licenses, and training. It would also allow me to network with industry professionals and gain practical experience.

The military's positive impact on my life is a testament to the transformative power of strong leadership, camaraderie, and the cultivation of essential skills. Through my interactions with military pilots and boom operators. I have witnessed firsthand the profound influence they have had on shaping my character and outlook. One of the key aspects that stand out is the exemplary leadership demonstrated by these pilots and boom operators. Military environments demand a level of discipline, accountability, and decisiveness that translates into effective leadership. My pilots, in particular, exhibited a rare combination of authority and compassion. Their ability to lead with empathy and genuine concern for their team members fostered a culture of mutual respect and support. This leadership style extended beyond the cockpit, influencing the way I approach challenges in my own life. The military's emphasis on situational awareness has been another invaluable lesson. KC-135R Pilots and Booms are trained to navigate complex and dynamic environments, requiring acute awareness of their surroundings. This skill goes beyond the battlefield; it's a mindset applicable to various aspects of life. Learning to assess situations, adapt to changing circumstances, and make informed decisions has become a cornerstone of my personal and professional growth. The military's emphasis on situational awareness has equipped me with a valuable toolset for navigating the complexities of life. Moreover, t
No matter where I am I feel like I am in a Leadership position. Recently I started Jui Jitsu, after becoming achieving a blue belt level I love taking the time to show different positions, attacks and defenses. I have seen Jui Jitsu completely transform peoples lives because of this. Everyone has a different love language and I believe when you give someone your full attention towards a skill to become something better is leadership.

Lead a group of 6 or more people. Make sure pizzas are done on time and to make sure the pizza is made well. Next, I have to do paperwork which requires me to count the money and to drop the money off at the bank.
Something I’ve always wanted to become is engineering, I’ve taken many classes at my high school to further educate myself on this job field. This year I am taking a full year engineering program at the SLCC. Once I’m out of high school I am planning on taking the Civil Engineering program at Utah State University. I will attempt to earn my bachelor’s degree which will take around 4 years. Then I will get a Civil Engineering job and work there for a few years so I can get more experience. During this time, I will also be taking some online college classes to get another degree in business. By combining these 2 degrees together I can create my own company and change the world for the better. Some educational goals I’ve had during high school is to get some college classes out of the way. Junior year I planned to take around 6-9 credits worth, this however did not happen I ended up taking 13 credits worth. My senior year I will be taking another 20 credits. This has been very beneficial for me because it is a lot cheaper to take these classes in high school instead of college.
Nowadays college is very expensive and can put lots of students in debt that will take years to pay off. However, by receiving this scholarship it will put me 1 step closer to achieving my goal of getting through college debt free. Having my college paid for would be a blessing. It would allow me to focus more on my studies because I wouldn’t have to be working a ton of hours to scrape up the money to pay. Then when I get older, I won’t have to make payments each month to try and pay my student loans off, instead I can either save the money or use it to benefit myself and other people.
The military has influenced my life greatly. 1 of the main things that has influenced me is being punctual. This is something that I’ve been doing my whole life, I will always be there for 5 minutes and try my absolute hardest to never be late. I’ve been at my job for 2 and a half years and I’ve only been late 1 time and that was due to construction. There are many kids that work there that constantly show up late and do a poor job at work. This leads me to my next topic which is a strong work ethic. Every day I work I always give 100% even if I don’t want to. While other kids are sitting on their phone I’ll be cleaning or doing the dishes.
At my work I am a shift lead which requires me to oversee everyone and make sure things get done in a timely fashion. This has been significant in teaching me better ways to lead people. Occasionally I’ll get someone who makes a mistake and I talk to them and show them what they did wrong and how to get better. I will also encourage my coworkers and try to motivate them to do a better job. 1 of the ways I’ve done this is by creating an incentive. If we can continue to improve and work hard, we will get a party during the summer. So far, it’s worked very well, our store was ranked 2nd most improved store in the West. Another time when I was in a leadership role was when I was the Captain of the MTB team. I would go out of my way to talk to everyone on the team and to make sure that they knew they were thought of. Next, I would also try to motivate the team to ride harder and ride more. Once again, I created another incentive, if you could ride 140 miles in 3 weeks then you would be put in a raffle to win a prize. This got almost everyone on the team to ride a lot more thus making them a better racer. All in all, I try to use my role as a leader to help correct people and to help motivate them to achieve victory.

Part way through my first bachelor's degree I realized that it wasn't right for me. After some contemplation and research, I realized that nursing would be a perfect fit for me. I switched into exercise science with the intent to use it for an accelerated Bachelor's of Science in Nursing degree. I have made that goal a reality and began an Accelerated Bachelor's of Science in Nursing this year. I have not decided on what nursing field I want to pursue; I want to get into my clinical rotations and get a feel for what each specialty has to offer. I worked several years as a nurse assistant in a nursing home and loved working with the older population. I may consider continuing with gerontology.
Knowing my first degree would have little job prospect and that I would be using it as a "stepping stone" into a nursing program, I worked multiple jobs throughout it and paid for my degree out of pocket, debt free.
Utah does not offer many options for an accelerated bachelor's of nursing program. This left my best option as a private healthcare school, with high tuition and fees. I saved up money over the last three years, but still had to take out significant loans to cover tuition. I have kept my job part time to help keep my loans as low as possible, but a scholarship would ease that burden greatly.
Although I did not grow up as a military brat, I was aware of military service from a young age. I have military lineage going back to the revolutionary war, with my Grandpa serving in Korea, my dad in Vietnam, and my brother in Afghanistan.
Starting in junior high I did Civil Air Patrol (like JROTC), and in high school I watched my brother join the Marines and very quickly be deployed, and then deployed again. I've always looked up to my brother. He has a way with people that makes him an incredible leader. I realized in high school that I wanted to join the military, partly wanting to follow in my brother's footsteps and also because I loved the patriotism that surrounded being in the military. I knew I loved serving people, and I liked the structure the military offers.
I did a year of ROTC and realized that the officer route was not quite for me, but still had a desire to serve. I put that desire on the back burner and during 2022 I was finally able to make that goal a reality. I enlisted in the Air National Guard in 2022, and shipped to basic training in early 2023. While at basic and advanced training I was able to push myself and break limits I had unintentionally set for myself. I learned the joy that lays just past our comfort level. I've taken that mindset with me into nursing school and know it will help me succeed when faced with new and unfamiliar tasks.
I continued my membership in Civil Air Patrol after graduating from the youth program. I took over the local unit as the deputy commander for cadets and lead the youth program in Cache Valley for six years. I scheduled all curriculum and taught or oversaw lessons and activities in aerospace, STEM, leadership, team building, physical fitness, community service, emergency services, and character development. The biggest focus was mentoring the youth, forming them into leaders, and fostering an environment of inclusion. During my time the membership grew from four youth to 40 youth regularly attending, with many youth getting involved at the state and national level. I worked with parents to get them involved in their child's program. I served on the finance committee to ensure we were maximizing our funds. I also served as deputy commander during Utah state's annual 7-day leadership school, overseeing the course curriculum and mentoring 35 youth leaders.
Several years ago, I found a love of triathlons and participate in several each year.

I have my sights set on furthering my education to prove my capabilities and secure a path forward for my future success. I am passionate about and interested in the world around me. I'm eager to pursue higher education because of the immense learning opportunities.
My overarching educational goals revolve around obtaining a bachelor's degree in Political Science. I am deeply fascinated in the history of the United States, its judicial system, and its role in global affairs. I believe that studying political science will inform my understanding of modern political topics and our country’s role in the future.
My initial degree would serve as a stepping stone in my long-term plan. Building upon this foundation, I am committed to studying Law and pursuing a Doctor of Jurisprudence, ultimately aiming to become an attorney. I am fascinated by our judicial system and motivated by my belief that I could make a difference in the lives of many. With a comprehensive educational journey, I aspire to make a lasting, positive impact on society and in my community.
Throughout high school, I have consistently worked part-time and diligently saved for my future education. This commitment is a reflection of my determination to take responsibility for financing my future. As I transition into college, I intend to continue working and saving throughout school, aiming to cover the expenses associated with my education. I value hard work and believe that supporting myself will foster personal growth and help me to learn self-reliance. I would, however, deeply appreciate any assistance with tuition and other expenses. The gift of a scholarship would not only lighten the financial burden, but would also provide me with the mental space and additional time needed to achieve my full academic potential and earn the success I know I am capable of. Any financial support I receive will be invaluable, enabling me to direct my focus wholeheartedly toward my studies without the burden of financial constraints. This proactive approach to funding my education underscores my dedication to my future and personal growth.
My father’s and grandfather’s military service has instilled within me an understanding of and appreciation for sacrifice and duty. My father’s commitment to serving our country has provided me with an active example of putting others before myself and fulfilling my responsibilities with pride and honor.
This year, my father will be leaving for Djibouti, Africa for a 10-month combat deployment. I am proud of my father and admire his courage, and recognize that it will be difficult to sacrifice his physical presence during this upcoming phase of my life. Not only will he be missed at my upcoming high school graduation, first year of college, and other important milestones, but his quiet absence at family gatherings and other routine moments will serve as an example of sacrifice for all families experiencing a deployment.
Recently, I participated in the Miss American Fork scholarship program, wherein I utilized the platform to raise awareness of combat Veteran post-care, focused on mental health. I was able to speak personally with many Veterans to hear their stories and struggles firsthand. A transformational moment in my life came when I attended a Military Appreciation Program and listened to a speaker share his story of working on a Veteran's crisis hotline. I was alarmed to learn the number of Veterans in crisis. Then and there I resolved to proudly partner with local organizations to educate and provide assistance to these veterans in need.
I have had the amazing opportunity to be a member of my high school's dance company for 3 years. On this team, I have held many leadership roles. First, as Unity Captain (2022- 2023) where I took charge of organizing team activities and service projects, along with leading initiatives to boost team spirit and morale. More recently, I was chosen as President (2023-2024) for the dance company. I have a responsibility to oversee the well-being of my team members and act as an example of hard work, dedication to our team, and leadership. I lead a group of sub-captains, which has taught me invaluable skills like delegation, communication, and empathy.
This last year I was a candidate in the Miss America scholarship competition, where I demonstrated my commitment to serving my community while broadcasting my talents as a dancer and communicator. As previously mentioned, this activity provided me with the platform to explore Veteran health initiatives and help raise awareness by echoing the stories of those I connected with.
In addition to these, I have held numerous leadership positions in my church youth group, such as class secretary, president, and group counselor. I've participated in event planning and hosting, ministering to fellow church members in need, and planning and leading spiritual discussions. I truly enjoy participating in this group as it offers me a place of solace and community while giving me many opportunities to serve others.

My education has always been something that is very important and valuable to me. I always strived to work my hardest in high school to maintain the best GPA possible and excel overall. I took rigorous college courses my junior and senior year of high school, and earned a 3.89 GPA. I'm proud of myself for completing high school with 15 college credits, which go towards my Associate degree. I'm currently a freshman at Snow College. My educational goals at Snow College are to earn my Associate degree, which I'm hoping to accomplish in two more semesters. Another goal I have at Snow College is to determine what I want my career to be. Before coming to college, I had my heart set on becoming a Dental Hygienist. After giving that career more thought and consideration, I'm not sure if it's the right choice for me. I desire to have a career that feels like something new everyday, and that gives me long-term joy. I have goals to be successful in my career and the best in the field of what I want to pursue. I desire to develop new skills, take leadership, improve time management, and more.
This fall, I started my Freshman year of college at Snow College. I opted to go to a junior college like Snow instead of attending a larger university because of how expensive it is. While I would have loved to attend Utah Tech University, Snow College is a more affordable option. Throughout high school, I earned money as a shift supervisor at a local soda shop, and I also worked as a remote phone surveyor. I earned enough money to take me through my first year of college. I have always had a goal to not rely on student loans for financial need. I have seen the negative impact that student loans have had on my friends, family's, and other student's lives. My financial need for a scholarship is to graduate college debt free. Earning a scholarship will grant me a greater opportunity to gain a college education.
The Military has had a big impact on my life. My dad has been in the Military throughout all of my life, and he has taught me important life lessons from all of these years. The most important thing that he has taught me, learned from the military, is that I can do hard things. So many situations in life have felt impossible for me to endure. When I feel overwhelmed and that I know that I can always go to my dad and he will put everything into perspective. Because of the impact of the military on my life I have learned that all things in life take work and sacrifice, but the end result is always worth it.
I have also learned to be selfless from the military and my dad. When people join the military, they are sacrificing their time and often times their lives to fight for their country. My dad is a linguist in the Air Force, and I think that he has the coolest job in the whole world. We took up skiing this year, and it has been amazing to see and hear how many people he is able to communicate with there. He has spoken to people in Bulgarian, Russian, and Spanish. Some of these people have come to the United States for a better life and better opportunities. If not for the military, my dad wouldn't have the opportunities to talk with as many different people as he does, and hear their stories.
The military has been exemplar to me in many different ways. I'm always so proud to say that my dad serves the country in the military, protects all of us, and keeps us safe.
For two years in high school, I worked at Guzzle Soda Shack as a shift supervisor. As a shift supervisor I was responsible for any mishap that may have happened at the store. I kept all of my coworkers in line and made sure that they did what was needed to be done. I was the one to deal with angry customers, technological difficulties, drama between coworkers, and more. Being a shift supervisor at Guzzle provided me with many useful experiences and opportunities that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
My senior year of high school I had the opportunity to be a member of the seminary council. The seminary council was responsible for inviting students to enroll in seminary and come hear the word of God. We also planned and created fun activities to engage students and make them excited about coming to seminary. There is a light that you could just see radiating off of the students that enrolled in seminary. Being a part of seminary council was very special to me and I believe that I did make a difference in some student's lives.
At Snow College, I have had the opportunity to read and tutor children at the Ephraim Elementary School. I help them to read fluently and comprehend what they read. My favorite part of going to read to them is seeing their bright and excited faces; eager to read. I am grateful for the opportunity and I am glad to know that I am making a difference in the children's lives.

While going to school I aspire to learn new techniques such as patterning, sketching, textile science, etc. to help expand my creative abilities. As I learn I want to build a solid and professional portfolio/resume to help me attain a career in costume or fashion design. Once graduated at the fashion institute of design and merchandising, I will continue furthering my education at California State Long Beach where I will obtain my bachelor’s degree in fashion design. While studying at CSLB I will enter the industry of costume/fashion design as an intern to familiarize myself with the workspace and network my way to a higher position. Once I’ve completely finished college I will be working on sets of Film & T.V. or at theater houses working as lead costume designer.
My parents taught me to be someone who works really hard to reach my goals and I’m often doing them on my own. Before college I was in need of my own car that would get me to school and last me to the end of my college experience. I decided to get a job where I worked 40 hours a week until I had saved enough money for a car. I’m not handed things in my life and I work hard for the things I want but sometimes I don’t have enough hours in the day and I can’t get to the goal without a little help. A scholarship would help me reach my goal without some of the stress and anxiety that comes with my financial struggles.
Due to the amount of school work I have and the long lasting symptoms of covid-19 I struggle with, I am unable to get a job while at school which makes payments difficult. While at school in 2023 my older brother unexpectedly passed and it took a major toll on my family and I and due to the nature of my schooling program I was unable to take a break. I am now constantly under a lot of stress and pressure and if I had to worry just a little bit less about some of my finances I could focus on my schooling and mental health more. Receiving an EANGUT scholarship would make a significant difference in my schooling finances for the better.
Since before I was born my father has devoted himself to protect his family and his country. I always admired his strength and devotion to his work and have found myself trying to mirror the exact same traits. As a child I loved to tell people about “my dad’s cool job!” because it made me feel special and apart of something greater than myself. Watching my father grow as a person throughout my life has given me the opportunity to experience what community truly is. My father views his battalion as his family and he watches over them and protects them knowing they will do the same for him. Experiencing that as a child taught me how to build my own community and friends that I consider family. I also learned how to work and collaborate with other students from watching my father at work. Now that my siblings and I are older my oldest brother has decided to follow my fathers footsteps in becoming a soldier for the U.S. army. I also admire my brother and his devotion. I look up to both my father and oldest brother to inspire me to be the greatest version of myself. Because of the U.S. Military I got to experience and learn the traits of what a strong and devoted individual is.
During high school I was apart of the school dance team, and an officer for FCCLA where I learned how to be a devoted and hard worker throughout my creative endeavors. While studying at my current school (F.I.D.M) I assisted on the shoot of a music video where I helped with costuming. I also got to assist the fashion designer Natasha Miyazaki during one of her fashion shows. In my spare time I am sketching fashion illustrations or creating any form of art that inspires me. I continue to dance on my own as a form of stress relief. I love to take care of my plant and garden in my spare time because it reminds me that I need to continuously nourish things in my life for myself to keep growing as a person. Another activity I enjoy is baking because it teaches me patience and persistence.
